This is an historical novel, written by White River Valley resident Dave Bartholomew. In part based on the countless stories told to him by area residents and descendants of early settlers of the Valley, the storyline is based in the White River Valley and the surrounding area.

From the publisher:

"The North Cascades near Leavenworth, Washington are a rugged and special place to live today. Over 100 years ago, it was more so. On the White follows the life of a young newlywed couple that spends their honeymoon traveling by wagon from Walla Walla to a new home they hope to find in the Wenatchee Valley. Once there, they find a valley of great beauty and amazing resources. They make fast friends and experience adventure and tragedy. This historical fiction is based on numerous stories passed down from the pioneers of this rich little valley."

Available from A Book for All Seasons in Leavenworth, Ye Olde Bookshoppe in Wenatchee, or Amazon online.

We had yet another White River History meeting yesterday at Glencanaan. This one was smaller and more task-specific; they are going to put up some signs along a trail up by Tall Timber and they asked for help supplying information and photos. Present were Karen Gray Arnold, Paul Gray, Heather Murphy, Jason Lundgren, Nancy Bartholomew and Dave Bartholomew.

Twelve us gathered last night, September 17, at our home, "the old Duncan place" (or Glencanaan, as we have re-named it), to get to know each other and start sharing stories. We enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot! Thank you to all who attended. For those that couldn't make it, good news: we decided to have another such gathering in the future. So stay tuned, and be sure to join us. In the meantime, be digging up those pictures and jotting down those old stories. Be sure to click the "follow" button for this blog so you can easily keep up with the developments. Feel free to contact us with questions, comments, ideas, stories or other submissions. Welcome to the blog for the history of the White River Valley, and to a lesser extent, the history of Lake Wenatchee, both near Leavenworth, Washington. We hope that this site is a resource for you in learning about this history, but also a place where you can share with others what you know about the history of this amazing place.

We do hope to eventually have a dedicated website on this topic, but for now, this blog is what we have to offer.

Please share this with others so we can get the word out!

Feel free to contact us at dnbart@gmail.com with comments, questions, suggestions, and information that you would like to share.

Thanks,

Dave and Nancy Bartholomew
